first of all i want to thank the people behind depnet. last year was very difficult for me and because of you i understand my situation. my first letter was last 16 september 2009 and followed by 24 september 2009. asking if i can have a normal life again.your answer helped me a lot in deciding and moving on.
it's been nine months now. i stop my medication without consulting my doctor since last week of december. don't have time to visit her again for the past months because i'm busy attending my sick mom. she passed away last may 6. i thoought i will experienced again that episodes, i did not although i have fear for relapse.
want to know po if it's normal (i know that it's not ok for normal people (: ) that i'm still experiencing mild anxiety---afraid that my depression might relapse and of acquiring the disease that cause the death of my mom.
Dear reader,
It is heartwarming to know that Depnet helped you go through a rough period in your life and that it influenced you positively.
What I can surmise from your narration is that a physician gave you medications for symptoms of anxiety and depression and that your mother’s illness had a big role in the emergence of your condition.
Depression and anxiety are both recurrent conditions. Recurrence is higher if medications are stopped before the recommended duration of therapy. Compliance to medications is very important for successful treatment. Stopping the medications without the knowledge of your doctor and not following up with him/her are both detrimental to your condition. Even if you do not feel the symptoms of anxiety and depression anymore, you need to continue your medication/s until the time that is advised by your doctor. Following up regularly with your doctor will also help in clarifying the personal issues that arise during the treatment period.
You have prematurely stopped your medication and you are faced with the loss of your mother. These are the reasons why you have symptoms of anxiety again. It is best that you go back to your doctor. It is possible that your medication will be returned but even if your doctor decides not to start any medication, he/she will be able to help you cope with your present problems. Do not let this “mild anxiety” go on without treatment because the full blown symptoms you experienced before may return.
Sincerely,
Encarnita Ampil, MD for DepNet.ph
