Good Day!
I've heard that chocolates and sweets greatly help in alleviating depression episodes through some chemical called endorphin. Is this true? If so, is it advisable as a remedy? Considering I am depressed frequently, will it work constantly or will the effects wear off?
Thank you!
Dan, male, 19 yrs old
Dear Dan,
Thank you very much for your very interesting question. i came across several articles regarding your query and i want to share with you what i found out;
1. chocolates, especially dark pure chocolates are known to elevate mood and may have value in helping people with mild or transient depression
2. chocolates are known to increase the level of endorphins in the brain which are associated with euphoric sensations
3. chocolates also increases serotonin levels in the brain which alleviates depression ( depression is known to be caused by decreased serotonin levels in the brain)
4. moderate to severe depression needs to be assessed and treated by a mental professional and that medications may be needed for these
My advise to you is to seek professional help so that your depression can be properly assessed and managed appropriately and medications can be prescribed if necessary
Thank you very much.
Sincerely,
